A message from Mike Payton

New Boston Councilman Mike Payton shares his background and objectives with residents.

“Mike was elected to New Boston Village Council in November of 2007. He now chairs the Utilities and Communications Committee and also serves on the Lands, Building and Renewal Committee and the Streets, Alleys and Transportation Committee. Mike graduated from Portsmouth East High School in 1973, from Ohio University in 1987 with a Bachelors Degree in Education and from Liberty University in 1997 with a Masters Degree. He also has taken graduate classes at Utah State University and holds a degree in Business Administration.

Mike was Human Resouces Director and Business Administrator for the Portsmouth Receiving Hospital for 10 years and was Director of the Volunteer Guardianship program for Scioto, Adams and Lawrence Counties. He also was director of the Forensic Monitoring program for the Ohio Department of Mental Health in southern Ohio. He has recently retired from the South Central Ohio Educational Service Center and currently works as an educational consultant (theteachersroom.org) in the southern Ohio area.

For 30 years Mike has worked with the New Boston Little League and helped form the first youth soccer league for the New Boston area. He is a member of the First Church of God, New Boston Kiwanis, Aurora Lodge #48, and past president of the local American Red Cross Chapter. Mike lives in New Boston with his wife Vicki, and sons Adam Kurtz and Nathan Seth.

Mike Payton writes, “I have spent most of my life in New Boston. My family and friends are here and I want the best for each of them.

My wife and my children are all graduates of Glenwood High School. The community has been great to me and my family since I first came here as a little league coach in 1978. Since then I have made some wonderful friendships that I will keep for the rest of my life. I believe New Boston is coming back from the disasterous times after the mill closed several years ago and I want to keep adding to the progress we have made. I promise to do my best to help bring business and industry to our community, to improve communications between council and all citizens, and to work with other local, state and federal officials for the betterment of our village. I encourage each of you to come to our council meetings the first and third Tuesdays of each month, and visit my website, mikepayton.net”
