\nPortsmouth Daily Times<\/em><\/p>\nCitizens and social groups hit the streets of New Boston Saturday morning, wearing eye-popping orange t-shirts and picking up trash as part of the Second Annual Village Cleanup Day.<\/p>\n
Organized by New Boston Councilwoman Shelly Hickman-Aeh, about 75 people gathered at the New Boston Fire Department Saturday morning \u2014 including Girl Scout troops, Upward Bound students, New Boston students, Wal-Mart employees, village workers and residents.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really surprised that we have as many people as we had last year,\u201d Hickman said. \u201cI\u2019m so proud of our kids. A lot of these kids go to New Boston, or live in New Boston, and I am always very proud of them. They represent our community very well.\u201d<\/p>\n
Among the kids were New Boston students Drew Delotell and Robert Waugh, who volunteered their Saturday morning to pick up trash to fulfill the community service requirement of being in the school\u2019s Honor Society. The boys said they also participated in the clean up last year.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a good thing to cleanup the community and make it look good,\u201d Delotell said. \u201cLast year, we went to the park and the baseball fields and picked up trash and everything, and made sure it looked nice.\u201d<\/p>\n
Waugh agreed with Delotell that it was important to keep the village clean.<\/p>\n
Brice Flowers, a resident of New Boston, called the community involvement excellent. Flowers also is organizing a New Boston Community Yard Sale, on June 6.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to seeing a cleaner New Boston,\u201d Flowers said. \u201cThe first weekend in June, we\u2019re going to be having our community yard sale. I\u2019m one of the co-chairs and I\u2019m inviting everybody to join all the New Boston residents. All the surrounding areas, we hope will come and see our beautiful little community.\u201d<\/p>\n
In addition to picking up trash and litter, the Village of New Boston also helped by cutting back trees for residents who couldn\u2019t otherwise afford it. Even New Boston Mayor James Warren and village council members pitched in to help.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s great when the community comes together to clean up their own area, to make it attractive and look nice for people who come in and out of the community. I give the council people credit for putting together this venture to clean up New Boston,\u201d Warren said.<\/p>\n
At noon, volunteers returned to the New Boston Fire Department for a free lunch donated by KFC and Arby\u2019s.<\/p>\n

March 29, 2009 …<\/p>\nSecond Annual Village Cleanup Day A Success<\/strong>\nby Ryan Scott Ottney\nPortsmouth Daily Times<\/em><\/p>\nCitizens and social groups hit the streets of New Boston Saturday morning, wearing eye-popping orange t-shirts and picking up trash as part of the Second Annual Village Cleanup Day.<\/p>\nOrganized by New Boston Councilwoman Shelly Hickman-Aeh, about 75 people gathered at the New Boston Fire Department Saturday morning \u2014 including Girl Scout troops, Upward Bound students, New Boston students, Wal-Mart employees, village workers and residents.<\/p>\n\u201cI\u2019m really surprised that we have as many people as we had last year,\u201d Hickman said. \u201cI\u2019m so proud of our kids. A lot of these kids go to New Boston, or live in New Boston, and I am always very proud of them. They represent our community very well.\u201d<\/p>\nAmong the kids were New Boston students Drew Delotell and Robert Waugh, who volunteered their Saturday morning to pick up trash to fulfill the community service requirement of being in the school\u2019s Honor Society. The boys said they also participated in the clean up last year.<\/p>\n\u201cIt\u2019s a good thing to cleanup the community and make it look good,\u201d Delotell said. \u201cLast year, we went to the park and the baseball fields and picked up trash and everything, and made sure it looked nice.\u201d<\/p>\nWaugh agreed with Delotell that it was important to keep the village clean.<\/p>\nBrice Flowers, a resident of New Boston, called the community involvement excellent. Flowers also is organizing a New Boston Community Yard Sale, on June 6.<\/p>\n\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to seeing a cleaner New Boston,\u201d Flowers said. \u201cThe first weekend in June, we\u2019re going to be having our community yard sale. I\u2019m one of the co-chairs and I\u2019m inviting everybody to join all the New Boston residents. All the surrounding areas, we hope will come and see our beautiful little community.\u201d<\/p>\nIn addition to picking up trash and litter, the Village of New Boston also helped by cutting back trees for residents who couldn\u2019t otherwise afford it. Even New Boston Mayor James Warren and village council members pitched in to help.<\/p>\n\u201cI think it\u2019s great when the community comes together to clean up their own area, to make it attractive and look nice for people who come in and out of the community.
