This year that honor will belong to Sugg Hickman, that smiling, friendly person who always greets you at Hickie\u2019s Hamburgers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe confirmed it the first part of the week,\u201d New Boston Village Councilman Mike Payton said. \u201cWe\u2019ve been wanting to do it for the last month. We just decided to wait and announce it until it got a little bit closer. We can\u2019t figured out why we haven\u2019t done it before now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sugg kept the restaurant open when her brother, Donald Hickman, died. Hickman said she has operated the restaurant for 23 years and the restaurant has been there for 41 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe would really be amazed what we do now compared to when he was alive,\u201d Hickman said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe has had to really work to keep that place going,\u201d Payton said. \u201cThis is her baby, she really personifies the American dream.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a day in which mom and pop businesses have been squeezed out by big chains, there is always a full house at Hickie\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know it\u2019s the fresh food,\u201d Hickman said. \u201cI think it\u2019s the personality of the restaurant. I try to greet everyone. I hug \u2018em.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sugg is best known for calling attention to people who have never eaten there before with her \u2013 \u201cHey, we\u2019ve got a virgin here!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know how I ever got started with that,\u201d Hickman said. \u201cPeople love to bring someone in so I can embarrass them. Seems like we\u2019re known all over \u2013 people are finding us on Facebook or their GPS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You need to know, going in, that there is always a crowd and you might have to wait a little bit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast week I announced \u2018the word is patience, I\u2019ve got two grills going,\u2019\u201d Hickman said.<\/p>\n<p>Another feature of Hickie\u2019s is the decor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou see an entire history of the village there, all those pictures,\u201d Payton said. \u201cThere\u2019s the shovel where they broke ground on the new (Glenwood) school hanging up there and she\u2019s got pictures back of the old school days and old ball teams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Payton said the parade is Saturday (Dec. 3). Line up will start at 4 p.m. on the New Boston Mall parking lot, where businesses such as Pat Catan\u2019s, Tractor Supply and Ollie\u2019s are located.
